Create Your Own Holiday Ceramic Ornament: A Simple & Heartfelt Project

The holidays are the perfect time to slow down, get creative, and make something meaningful with your own hands. One of my favourite projects for the season is crafting ceramic ornaments — a simple yet heartfelt way to bring handmade beauty into your holiday decor.

You can start by rolling out a slab of clay to about a quarter-inch thick. Then, use cookie cutters or hand-drawn shapes to create stars, trees, or snowflakes. Add texture with lace, stamps, or natural materials like pine branches for a festive touch. Once dry and bisque-fired, have fun glazing them in classic holiday colours — think deep greens, snowy whites, and shimmering gold accents.

This project is wonderful for all skill levels — from kids creating their first ornament to adults looking to make personalized keepsakes or thoughtful handmade gifts.

Whether you hang them on your tree, use them as gift tags, or string a few together as garlands, these handmade ceramic ornaments will make your holiday decor feel extra special.

"There’s something truly special about slowing down during the holidays to create with your own hands — each ceramic ornament becomes a small, handmade memory you’ll cherish for years to come."
