Anna's Internal Projet: Chain link Vase

Hello everyone, Anna here! As I wrap up 2025 at Happy Hands Pottery & Art Studio, I’m excited to share one of my favourite pieces I’ve ever created—a handmade vase inspired by the elegant curves and rounded handles of traditional Greek pottery.

I began by wheel-throwing the body using about 7 lbs of clay, forming an hourglass shape that naturally evolved as I worked. My creative process is always intuitive—I start with an idea, but I let the clay guide the final form.

Wanting to challenge myself further, I added handbuilt chain-link coils around the handles, inspired by the detailed sculptural work of Kelsey Floyd. Coiling isn’t my strongest technique, so this was the perfect project to push my skills and create something bold and sculptural.

For the glaze, I used Mayco’s Englobe Speckled Buff on the exterior to keep the palette clean and neutral, while the interior features Mayco’s Leather stoneware glaze—its rich brown tone ties beautifully with the speckled finish.

This piece truly represents my growth as both a potter and an artist. I’m so proud of how it turned out, and I hope it brings you as much joy as it brought me while creating it.
