Creative Space for Writing

Oftentimes, we are rushed into our day-to-day lives with activities like work, so taking out time to carve a creative pursuit almost becomes daunting. As if time, which is infinite, switches to an excuse framed as “I have no time.”

This time was different. We reclaimed time to craft our stories. A community of writers, both aspiring and professional, or simply people who wanted a place for words and connection, came together. A Creative Circle.

Creative Circle: Poetry & Tea Night

One day, I was creating a collage in my sketchbook while my friend Megan was rehearsing beside me for an upcoming event. I figured I could share her talent with others to spark creative journeys. Instead of collage-making, we gathered as a community to write, reflect, and share.

On the evening of August 29, 2025, I hosted Creative Circle (Poetry & Tea Night) with the theme Turning Points. Megan performed guitar pieces to guide the night of writing. The room was softly lit, with natural wood floors and furniture creating a cozy backdrop. The Happy Hands team prepared refreshments like cold and hot tea, chips, chocolate, and doughnuts, while chairs were arranged in a circle for guests to arrive.

Writing, Music, and Reflection

The night began with an icebreaker and an introduction to the theme Turning Points. Guests could bring their own writing or respond to prompts that reflected on change, growth, and transformation.

Megan’s music framed the warm-up writing exercises, encouraging reflection on the images and feelings the songs evoked. Each person then drew from the prompt jars: one filled with reflective turning point prompts, the other with poetic and imaginative ones.

Example prompt: Write about a moment that changed the way you see the world.

As people wrote, Megan’s guitar created a soft, inspiring atmosphere. Afterwards, participants gathered in small groups to share their writing and connect more personally. This helped remove the pressure of performing right away.

Sharing Our Voices

After a short break for tea and snacks, we reconvened as a larger group. One by one, people took the mic to perform pieces ranging from themes of nature, anxiety, love, family, and groundedness.

Sometimes writing can feel like an act of rebellion. As Sabyasachi Roy wrote in Writing While the World Burns: “No one’s going to give you a medal for staying creative during collapse. But every sentence you write is a refusal. A small, stubborn act that says: I’m still here. I’m still paying attention. I still believe words matter, even now. Especially now.”

It was a night I won’t forget. I am grateful to have organized and shared space with other creative individuals. Carving out time for creative pursuits might feel small, but in those moments, we discover our inner voices that everyday life often fogs over. When we nourish this creative spark, momentum builds, and the words keep flowing.

So keep writing.
