This course is ideal for beginner to intermediate students who want to strengthen their painting skills while developing a more expressive and personal approach to painting nature.
What to expect:
Over six weeks, you’ll explore gouache painting through nature and wildlife subjects in a relaxed and supportive environment. Each session focuses on building confidence with core techniques such as layering, opacity control, and rewetting, while developing your ability to simplify forms and capture the essence of natural subjects.
You’ll work on painting birds, frogs, snails, and geese using a loose, expressive approach—focusing on observation, shape, color, and atmosphere rather than perfection. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll gradually build both technical skills and a more personal artistic style.
What students will learn:
- Gouache basics – Learn how gouache works, including opacity, layering, rewetting, and blending, so you can paint with more ease and control.
- Painting natural subjects – Practice observing and painting birds, frogs, snails, and geese with attention to form, texture, and character.
- Color and value – Explore how to mix fresh, earthy, and vibrant colors while using light and shadow to create depth.
- Loose, expressive brushwork – Build confidence with brush handling and learn how to suggest details without overworking your painting.
