In this 4-week course, you will learn how to let go of control and let gentle strokes paint the whole picture with gouache.  We will be painting different produce with gouache impressionist style – instead of aiming for precise and careful strokes, you will go for big and bold ones.

What to expect:

Over four weeks, you’ll explore gouache through bold, impressionist-style paintings of fresh produce. Each session focuses on building confidence with opacity, layering, and rewetting while practicing expressive, intentional brush strokes. Instead of blending for perfection, you’ll learn to layer color, simplify shapes, and capture light, value, and freshness with loose, dynamic techniques.

Expect guided demonstrations, hands-on practice, and a supportive studio environment where experimentation is encouraged and personal style can grow naturally.

What students will learn:

• Gouache basics – How gouache works (opacity, layering, rewetting) and how it differs from watercolour so you can use it with confidence.
• Impressionist style painting – Big and bold brush strokes, intentional with colors and values
• Loose gouache painting – Building layers instead of blending and learning the proper way to hold the brush for this style of painting
• Produce painting – Mix vibrant, juicy colors, and learn to paint produce that look fresh and moist
