Glaze Chemistry Made Fun: Cone 6 Glazes (3 Weeks)

Learn how to create your own ceramic glazes in this hands-on cone 6 glaze chemistry course, taught by glaze chemist Elise Chung, who holds a Master of Chemistry. This 3-week class is designed for potters who want to deepen their understanding of glaze materials and move beyond using store-bought or studio glazes.

You’ll explore the basics of glaze chemistry in a simple and practical way. Learn how key ingredients like silica, alumina, and fluxes work together to create different colours, textures, and finishes at cone 6 temperatures.

Each class includes short, easy-to-follow lessons and plenty of hands-on practice. You will mix, test, and adjust your own glazes while learning how small changes affect results. The course also covers glaze application, firing basics, common glaze problems.

This is a beginner-friendly, process-based course focused on learning through testing, experimentation, and observation.
The studio will provide white stoneware test tiles for glaze testing.
