Guidelines and Procedures for Studio Pass

🚪 Studio Entry
– Please do not enter the studio before your class or session start time you book, even if the door is open.

🧰 Tools & Materials
– Bring a pottery tool kit on your first day: metal rib, needle tool, round sponge, wooden trimming stick, loop tools, and wire cutter.
– Clay provided by Happy Hands Studio (one 10 kg bag per studio pass is included).
– No outside clay is allowed inside the studio.
– Extra clay is available for purchase if needed.
– Bring your own aprons and towels.

🏺Studio Use & Expectations
– Studio Pass holders work independently but must have prior pottery experience. No instruction is provided with a Studio Pass.

🧹Cleaning Responsibilities
– Use the last 20 minutes of your session for thorough cleaning.
– Before leaving:
– Clean all tools, wheels, tables, and equipment.
– Never brush clay crumbs onto the floor; use a wet cloth instead.
– Mop up any spills (clay, glaze, slip) immediately.
– No sanding bisqueware — use a wet grinding stone to avoid dust.
– Always leave your workspace as clean as you found it (or better!).
– If you have leftover clay:
– Leave it for studio recycling (do not take another participant’s recycled clay).
– Or take it home — but clay removed from the building cannot return.

 Wheel and Handbuilding Use
– After using the wheel:
– Remove and clean the splash pan.
– Clean the wheel head, table, and area around the wheel.
– Sanitize and properly return all tools.
– Wipe and dry your stool if needed.
– Remove your work from bats and clean/dry them.
– Place your pieces on studio boards, cover them properly, and label clearly.
– Turn off the wheel and overhead lights.
– Sign your name on every piece you make. Your first name with last name initial and date must be on your pieces. We are not responsible for work that is not identified. Technicians reserve the right to not fire pieces without name.

🎨 Glazing Rules
– Shake glaze containers before opening, and open them over a bowl of water.
– Use one brush per glaze color — no mixing glazes or brushes.
– Leave 1/8″ of the bottom of your piece unglazed.
– Clean brushes well and lay them on the drying mat.
– Wipe glaze containers clean and close them tightly.
– Do not bring your own glazes — only studio-provided glazes are allowed (you may bring underglazes if you wish).

🔥 Firing Policies
– Your Studio Pass includes one kiln shelf (one bisque + one glaze firing).
– Additional space or large pieces will require extra fees.
– Only pieces made entirely in the studio will be fired — no at-home pieces allowed.
– Technicians reserve the right to refuse to fire unsafe or poorly constructed pieces.
– We are not responsible for breakage, warping, blistering, or other firing issues.
– Damage to kiln shelves, elements, or other work due to improper glazing or clay use will result in replacement fees.

📦 Picking Up Your Pieces
– You will receive an email to pick up once the glazed pieces are back.
– Pick-up starts three weeks after your final session.
– We hold finished work for four weeks only — after that, pieces will be discarded.
