Join artist Aaron Jones for a hands-on, reflective workshop that explores the layered nature of identity through the medium of mixed media collage. Inspired by the themes of Rosalie Favell | Belonging (1982–2024), this workshop invites participants to explore the complexity of self-representation and their sense of belonging.
Longing and Belonging: Mixed Media Collage Workshop with Aaron Jones
Saturday, August 9
12pm to 3pm
Onsite Gallery, OCAD University
199 Richmond St. West, Toronto
Participants are encouraged to bring personal materials—such as photographs, letters, printed clippings, found objects, and other memorabilia—that reflect the histories, memories, people, icons, and images that have shaped who they are. Additional materials will also be provided.
In the spirit of Favell’s work, where photographs become sites of storytelling, resistance, and reclamation, this workshop encourages participants to assemble a visual statement of identity through collage. The creative journey will be a process of reimagining the self across time, space, and cultural narratives.
This session is designed to support honest, creative expression and to provide a space for exploring how identity is layered, shifting, and complex. Whether drawing from personal archives, pop culture, imagined worlds, or abstract ideas, participants will piece together symbols of self, longing, and belonging.
